Ultralight Backpacking Tips

Going Lightweight or Ultralight doesn't need to be hard, or mean giving up comfort. Here are several simple tips for reducing base weight, improving comfort on the trail, and being able to hike further, faster, and with less effort.

Use disposable water bottles instead of heavy, and expensive ‘backpacking’ brands. A 1-liter Nalgene is over six times heavier than a 1.5-liter Poland Spring bottle. Smartwater bottles are extremely popular with thru hikers for their mix of durability and light-weight.
